Gigliotti leaves Belle Vernon Area board
ROSTRAVER TOWNSHIP - The Belle Vernon Area School Board on Monday accepted the resignation of Director Michael Gigliotti.
Gigliotti served on the board for 3 1/2 years and spent eight years as district business manager before leaving the post in June 2000.
Absent from last night's regular meeting, Gigliotti submitted a letter of resignation March 26.
Board President Aaron Bialon said the letter did not explain why Gigliotti resigned.
Contacted after the meeting, Gigliotti said he no longer has enough time to devote to the board.
In December, Gigliotti became the Charleroi Area School District business manager.
A Belle Vernon resident, he also owns Mike's Service Mart, a convenience store, gas station and auto repair shop in Cecil Township.
Gigliotti said he considered leaving the board because of business responsibilities and anticipated time needed for budget preparation at Charleroi Area and Belle Vernon Area.
"I just don't have the time to put into it," he said of the BVA position. "At this point, I figured it would be easier for me to give that one up and concentrate on Charleroi.
" ... It was just an opportune time. I was very comfortable making the decision, with no regrets in serving the district. I enjoyed it and have no regrets in having to resign."
"I wish them luck with all the new laws coming in," he said of recent state mandates with which his former BVA colleagues will have to deal. "It's going to become even more of a challenge in the future."
The school board unanimously accepted Gigliotti's resignation.
"I am going to miss Michael and his expertise when it comes to the budget with his business background," Director Dale Patterson said of Gigliotti.
The board accepted a recommendation from director Charles Kraft to send a letter of thanks to Gigliotti.
The board agreed to consider a replacement for Gigliotti next month.
