Herminie pair victim of Internet scam
HERMINIE — State police from the Greensburg barracks are warning residents about an Internet scam in the area.
The scam is being run by a company that calls itself Market Force, from Louisville, Ky.
Two Herminie residents, Katherine Pritts and Tina Grace, have been victimized, police said.
The incident occurred when Pritts and Grace completed an online survey from the company.
The company then sent the pair a correspondence relative to employment via a "Secret Shopper" program.
Under the guise of the "Secret Shopper" program, the women received cashiers checks in the mail. They were asked to send a portion of the money to another individual via Western Union Money Gram.
The women were informed they could keep a portion of the money for the compensation for their services, state police said.
During this assignment, the women were asked to evaluate the business and the Money Gram process.
After the transaction, the women were instructed to complete an evaluation of the business that conducted the transaction.
After the completion of the assignment, they were told they would be given another assignment.
However, Pritts and Grace later learned that the cashier's checks were fraudulent and notified state police.
Investigators are asking anyone who receives solicitation for the "Secret Shopper" program to call police.
