Man arrested for kidnapping threat
A Brownsville man was accused of threatening to kidnap a 6-year-old child from school.
Shawn P. Daugherty, 44, of 1113 Second St., was charged by Charleroi police with stalking, terroristic threats and criminal coercion. Charges were filed Monday in the office of Magisterial District Judge Larry Hopkins, Charleroi.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, Daugherty allegedly sent harassing and threatening letters and cards to a woman at her place of employment, in Charleroi.
The affidavit did not indicate the relationship of the victim to the suspect.
In one of the letters, Daugherty threatened to kidnap the woman's daughter from Charleroi Elementary Center, according to the affidavit.
After his arrest, Daugherty allegedly admitted to writing the letters and gave police a written statement, according to the affidavit.
He was arraigned by Hopkins and remanded to the Washington County Correctional Facility in lieu of $50,000 cash bond.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. Jan. 12 before Hopkins.
