Program for potential college athletes slated for Monessen
If your child is thinking about playing a sport at the collegiate level, you may want to head to the Monessen High School Auditorium Wednesday night.
Nationally acclaimed speaker Doug Mowen will be there to present "The Student-Athlete & College Recruiting" seminar.
The program starts at 7:30 PM and admission is free.
Monessen Athletic Director Jason Minniti met Mowen at the Athletic Directors convention in Hershey this past March.
"This is a good opportunity for coaches, parents, and the kids to learn more about the recruiting process," Minniti said. "People will be surprised to see what all goes into the process."
Among the topics Mowen will discuss include:
Minniti said that there will be numerous topics that will surprise people.
"The fact that got me was that 70% of collegiate athletes do not compete in Division I or II," Minniti said. "There are also ways to get scholarships to the smaller levels as well."
At the program, there will also be a book available. Cost for the book is $20.
"If your child is serious about playing a sport after high school, then I highly recommend you attending," Minniti said. "This program is definitely worth your time."
