Kiski Area students to present prom fashion show to benefit SADD
Kiski Area High School students will strut the catwalk in the latest hot designer gowns and tuxes for the SADD Prom Fashion Show at noon Saturday in the high school auditorium.
The prom fashion extravaganza, featuring the latest in designer prom wear, Philip Pelusi hairstyles and more, will be open to the public.
And that means students from other school districts can mingle with the Kiski student body to begin their homework for prom season in the spring.
The stars of the show will be 16 student couples who will model more than 30 gowns and tuxedos. Fashionistas and onlookers can take a break in the action with appetizers and refreshments that will be served in the lobby.
Pampering is encouraged, as gift certificates for tanning, hair and nails will be raffled using admission tickets.
"Because the Kiski School District is so large, we don't normally open events up outside of the district, but this time we did," says Jennifer McAfee, SADD sponsor and a high school teacher.
The universal appeal of prom glamour seems to be a natural for a fundraiser for SADD, Students Against Destructive Decisions, formerly known as Students Against Drunk Driving.
Admissions will benefit the SADD programs in the Kiski Area School District, which sponsors educational programs on preventing drugs, alcohol and tobacco use.
Currently,150 to 200 students are members of the program.
"I thought it was a good idea to open up the fashion show so everybody benefits from it," McAfee says.
"We thought this show would appeal to many people who want to see high fashion," she says.
Name-droppers include designs by Tony Bowls, who creates couture for beauty queens like Miss California USA.
"There's a lot of the form-fitting gowns; some are flashy, and the citrus colors are in this year," McAfee says.
The gowns are from The Exquisite Bride in Murrysville and Richland.
Three hairstylists from Philip Pelusi in the Monroeville Mall will coif the model students, while Bridal Blooms in Leechburg will supply the flowers.
All fashion-show clothes and services are provided free, according to McAfee.Additional Information:
