Offensive player of the year
Aaron Brown, Burrell
Burrell senior Aaron Brown made good things happen almost every time he touched the football this season. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound wide receiver/defensive back scored 23 touchdowns, and he did so in style.
He scored four different ways -- rushing, receiving, kick returning and on defense. He was responsible for 138 of Burrell's 415 points.
Brown's do-it-all game also earned him Valley News Dispatch Offensive Player of the Year honors.
Brown's statistics are so telling, he doesn't need a highlight reel.
He accounted for 1,882 yards of total offense and averaged an astounding 26 yards per play.
Brown caught 38 passes for 911 yards and 14 touchdowns, compiled 848 yards on kick and punt returns and returned two interceptions for touchdowns.
Brown was the keystone in Burrell's high-scoring offense that averaged 37.7 points per game. He was a big reason the Bucs (9-2) earned a share of the Allegheny Conference title and reached the WPIAL Class AA quarterfinals.
To top his season, Brown made first-team All-Allegheny Conference at four positions: wide receiver, kick returner, punter and defensive back.
Now, Brown hopes to follow in the footsteps of his father, John, and brother, John Jr., both of whom went on to play Division I college football.
John Brown Sr. played at Pitt in the mid-1980s. John Jr. currently plays for the Panthers.
Aaron Brown has a scholarship offer from Temple, but is waiting for more schools to show serious interest.
