Foxes win bracket in Fla. tourney
Fox Chapel made sure a trip to Florida was worthwhile.
The Foxes slipped past Thomas Jefferson, 55-49, in overtime on Saturday to take the four-team Barack Obama bracket of the KSA Classic in Orlando, Fla.
The Foxes went 3-0 in the event and will return to Section 2-AAAA play Tuesday against Gateway (3-1).
Guard Harrison Smith continued his strong play of late for Fox Chapel (8-1), scoring a game-high 19 points in his team's seventh straight win.
Thomas Jefferson (4-1) rallied from nine points down to force overtime. Alex Vargo's desperation shot at the end of regulation rimmed out for Fox Chapel.
Vargo finished with 15 points.
Fox Chapel held the Jaguars to six points in overtime.
Brock DeCicco, a day after being named to the AP Class AAA All-State football team, scored 18 to lead the Jaguars.
Valley 81, Ford City 69
Valley continued to put up points behind senior forward Troy Hill, who had a season-high 28 points and 10 rebounds, as the Vikings (6-2) won their third straight game.
Valley has scored at least 76 points in four straight games.
Bryan Rayburg added 19 points, and Geoff Fuquay had 18 for the Vikings. Denzel Carter had 12 assists in the non-section win.
Lucas Prazenica led Ford City (5-2) with 18 points and Matt Shanty added 16.
Northgate 68, Springdale 60
Springdale's Greg Arch and Dan Webster matched game-highs with 32 points apiece, but Northgate (3-5) held on for the non-section win.
Springdale (3-5) had a two-game win streak stopped.
