Some of us do better than others in the cold weather. The same holds true for animals, whether in the wild or in captivity.
“All our animals at the zoo have temperature parameters for exhibition,” Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium zookeeper Henry Kacprzyk told AccuWeather. “We have a wide variety of species from the Antarctic to the tropics.”
The facility houses more than 4,000 creatures.
“The animals love to explore their habitat after it’s been covered in snow,” Kacprzyk said.
While cold-weather lovers like polar bears frequently take dips in their temperature-controlled, 40-degree pool, the elephants are no longer permitted outdoors when the mercury drops below 35 degrees, reports AccuWeather.
