Artists share their expressions of love in juried Greensburg exhibit
A juried art show, “The Art of Love,” is the result of artists and writers being asked to explore that topic and share their creative expressions at an exhibition in the Greensburg Garden and Civic Center, 951 Old Salem Road.
According to artist Mary Ellen Raneri of Latrobe, show organizer, participating artists will articulate what the word “love” means to them.
Free and open to the public, the multimedia exhibition will be on display through Feb. 27.
Artist Moira Richardson began the “Art of Love” show a few years ago. Raneri says she agreed to take over planning the exhibition this year.
The center’s walls are hung with art work made from wood, acrylic, watercolors, cloth, collages and jewelry.
A reception will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 12, with prizes awarded at 6:45 p.m. Writers will read poetry, prose and short narratives they have composed about pieces that spoke to them.
From about 70 pieces of submitted art, 46 are being shown.
Kenneth Nicholson, who has exhibited his art work in Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Ohio, Washington, D.C., New Jersey and New York, will serve as juror.
Nicholson is adjunct instructor at Westmoreland County Community College, University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg and Seton Hill University.
Adding a juror is new this year, as is asking writers to select a piece of submitted art to write about.
“The artists like that,” Raneri says. “The most challenging thing was hanging the show.”
Some of the pieces will be for sale.
