'Metamorphosis' makes American premiere in Pittsburgh
Maria Caruso, founding artistic director of Bodiography Contemporary Ballet, will bring her solo creation, “Metamorphosis,” to Pittsburgh for its first U.S. stop.
The 8 p.m. Feb. 29 performance will take place at an experimental warehouse space at 1501 Preble Ave., in Pittsburgh’s Chateau neighborhood.
“Metamorphosis” has been performed around the world since premiering in 2018 at Israel’s Karmiel Dance Festival.
Caruso is making her hometown the show’s only domestic stop this year.
Taking root after her extensive work with the Martha Graham Contemporary Dance Company, and performing Graham’s iconic “Lamentation,” Caruso began working on her own expansive stage piece.
“The work is an emotional journey through life’s many transitions,” she says. “It is partially based on my own experience but broadened to be more universal.” Throughout the performance Caruso uses a series of costume changes as a metaphor for turning points in her character’s journey.
Tickets are $75-$200 (VIP).
