‘Dr. Phil’ daytime talk show will end after 21 seasons on TV
The “Dr. Phil” daytime talk show is coming to an end after 21 seasons.
Dr. Phil McGraw, CBS Media Ventures said, “is choosing to exit daytime for new ventures.”
Original episodes will air through the current season. “Dr. Phil” airs on weekdays on CBS.
“I have been blessed with over 25 wonderful years in daytime television,” McGraw said.
He began his TV career as a regular guest on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” in the late 1990s. “With this show, we have helped thousands of guests and millions of viewers through everything from addiction and marriage to mental wellness and raising children. This has been an incredible chapter of my life and career, but while I’m moving on from daytime, there is so much more I wish to do.”
CBS Media Ventures said McGraw is working on a prime-time partnership scheduled to launch in 2024.
“I am compelled to engage with a broader audience because I have grave concerns for the American family, and I am determined to help restore a clarity of purpose as well as our core values,” McGraw said.
CBS Media Ventures said it will offer “classic library episodes” for the 2023-24 season and beyond.
“Dr. Phil” premiered in September 2002.
“Since its inception, ‘Dr. Phil’ has provided over $35 million in resources for its guests off-camera, after appearing onstage. The program has held the #1 or #2 spot in its genre for all 21 years it has been on the air, has received 31 Emmy nominations and won five PRISM Awards for the accurate depiction of drug, alcohol and tobacco abuse and addiction, as well as a MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Drivers) Media Award,” CBS Media Ventures said in a news release.
McGraw founded Courtroom Sciences, Inc., which inspired the CBS primetime show, “Bull.” He is executive producer of “So Help Me Todd” on CBS and hosts two podcasts, “Phil in the Blank” and “Mystery & Murder: Analysis by Dr. Phil.”
