Longtime Fox News Channel anchor Bill Hemmer will be moving to the afternoon slot vacated by Shepard Smith two months ago, when he abruptly left the network.

The new show, titled “Bill Hemmer Reports,” debuts on January 20 and will air weekdays at 3 p.m., the channel announced Monday.

Hemmer was serving as co-anchor of the Fox 9 a.m. news program, “America’s Newsroom,” alongside Sandra Smith. A co-anchor will be named to that show at some point.

“As a journalist, I am extremely grateful for this opportunity,” Hemmer said in a statement. “2020 will undoubtedly be a year of great significance. Leading our breaking news division with a signature hour has enormous value to me, personally, and to our audience. We’ve got a fantastic team here and I am excited to get to work.”

Smith announced his resignation on Oct. 11.

Hemmer has been with the network since 2005. He previously worked on several CNN shows and began his career as a weekend sports anchor for WCPO-TV in Cincinnati, Ohio.
