Once known for his child-friendly educational programming, Bill Nye “The Science Guy” took a much more adult tone in a discussion about climate change Sunday.

Here’s Nye’s appearance. A warning if you click on it: The video contains strong language.

“The planet’s on (expletive) fire,” Nye said in the sketch on HBO news comedy show “Last Week Tonight With John Oliver.”

As he said it, he ignited a globe with a blowtorch.

“There are a lot of things we could do to put it out,” Nye continued. “Are any of them free? No of course not, nothing’s free you (expletive) idiots. Grow the (expletive) up, you’re not children anymore.”

Nye hosted the educational children’s program “Bill Nye the Science Guy” on PBS from 1993-1998. His more recent work has been focused on older audiences.

Nye has advocated for scientific literacy, debated creationists and promoted environmental initiatives meant to stop climate change. He hosts the Netflix show “Bill Nye Saves the World.”

“I didn’t mind explaining photosynthesis to you when you were 12, but you’re adults now, and this is an actual crisis,” Nye said on “Last Week Tonight.
