More good news for all you “Lizzie McGuire” fans.
On Aug. 23, it was announced that Hilary Duff would reprise her eponymous role from the early-2000s teen sitcom in a new show for Disney+, the company’s streaming service set to launch later this year.
Now it’s also been announced that original cast members Hallie Todd and Robert Carradine will again play Lizzie’s parents — Jo and Sam — and Jake Thomas will again play her younger brother Matt in the upcoming sequel series.
The reboot will find Lizzie living what sounds like the hipster dream in Brooklyn — at 30, she’s an assistant to an interior designer, while her boyfriend is a SoHo restaurateur.
“The good news is, just like me and everybody who loved Lizzie and has grown up with her, Lizzie’s also grown up,” Duff said when the new series was announced. “She’s older, she’s wiser, she has a much bigger shoe budget, which is super exciting. She has her dream job. She has kind of the perfect life right now.”
But, true to TV story arcs, Lizzie will experience some ups and downs that her family and friends — and, as in the original, an animated form of her teen self — will help her get through.
“She still hasn’t totally found her way, and that’s going to be part of the journey,” Duff told People.
Original series creator Terri Minsky will be showrunner and executive producer, with Duff and Rachel Winter as executive producers. A premiere date has not yet been announced.
Plenty of grown-up fans — who are still 13 at heart — are eager to catch up with Lizzie.
