In this episode of the “Pittsburgh Pop” podcast, host Tim Benz and TV Talk columnist Rob Owen discuss Pittsburgh pop culture news of the moment, including Netflix setting a release date for “The Pale Blue Eye,” filmed in late 2021 and early 2022 in Western Pennsylvania. The Scott Cooper-directed film, starring Christian Bale, will arrive in select theaters on Dec. 23 and on Netflix on Jan. 6.

Benz and Owen talk about the upcoming NFL season with Amazon’s Prime Video carrying Thursday night games nationally and one local station broadcasting Amazon’s Steelers game.

They also discuss the news that NBC is considering dropping its 10 p.m. programming and giving time back to local stations and how that could play out locally if it comes to pass.

Owen offers his take on “The Patient,” the new Steve Carell psychological thriller produced by FX and now streaming on Hulu.

And Benz reports his impression of Netflix’s “Untold: The Girlfriend Who Didn’t Exist,” the documentary about Manti Te’o’s catfishing experience.
