In this episode of the “Pittsburgh Pop” podcast, host Tim Benz and TV Talk columnist Rob Owen discuss Pittsburgh pop culture news of the moment, including the sale of AT&T SportsNet Pittsburgh to the owner of the Penguins.
Benz and Owen discuss this week’s feel-good episode of CBS’s “Secret Celebrity Renovation” featuring Pittsburgh native and NFL star Damar Hamlin. And Benz gives his critique of Max’s documentary “B.S. High” and season two of “Winning Time.”
This morning Netflix released the first trailer for filmed-in-Pittsburgh movie “Rustin,” a PG-13-rated bio-pic on gay Civil Rights leader Bayard Rustin coming to Netflix Nov. 17. Today marks the 60th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.’s March on Washington, which Rustin is credited with planning. Though “Rustin” filmed mostly in the Pittsburgh region, the march itself filmed in Washington, D.C.
Owen and Benz offer their first impressions of the new Disney+ “Star Wars” series “Ahsoka,” created by Mt. Lebanon native Dave Filoni.
And Owen shares that in celebration of “Star Trek Day” next week, CBS will televise the first two episodes of Paramount+ streaming series “Strange New Worlds” at 8 p.m. Sept. 8.
