Emmy nominations: ‘The Pitt’ lands 13, 'Severance' leads all with 27
Given the critical acclaim and buzz, the question going into the 2025 Emmy nominations wasn’t if the ER drama “The Pitt” would get nominated, it was how many noms would the HBO Max series take home.
Turns out the answer is 13, including best drama, lead actor in a drama (Noah Wyle), supporting actress in a drama (Katherine LaNasa), guest actor in a drama (Shawn Hatosy), directing for a drama, writing for a drama, casting for a drama, contemporary makeup, prosthetic makeup, sound editing and sound mixing.
“Mayor of Kingstown” and “The Pradeeps of Pittsburgh” did not receive any Emmy nominations but feel-good Netflix film “Nonnas,” starring Mt. Lebanon native Joe Manganiello and directed by former Pittsburgher Stephen Chbosky, received a nomination for best TV movie.
“Severance” led all series with 27 nominations followed by “The Penguin” (24), “The Studio” (23), “The White Lotus” (23), “The Last of Us” (16), “Andor” (14), “Hacks” (14), “Adolescence” (13), “The Bear” (13), “The Pitt” (13), “SNL 50: The Anniversary Special” (12), “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” (11), “Black Mirror” (10) and “Dying for Sex” (9).
Harrison Ford landed his first-ever Emmy nomination for “Shrinking” and Kathy Bates is the oldest-ever lead actress nominee for “Matlock.”
Among networks/platforms, HBO and Max (now once again HBO Max) tallied 142 nominations while Netflix received 121. Apple TV+ had 78 nominations.
In addition to the critical acclaim and Emmy nominations, “The Pitt,” which takes place a Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center (Allegheny General Hospital on the North Side plays the PTMC exterior), is one of the year’s most-watched streaming series. Nielsen released a list of the Top 20 original streaming series through the first half of 2025 and “The Pitt” ranked No. 7 behind Netflix’s “Squid Game,” Amazon Prime Video’s “Reacher,” Netflix’s “The Night Agent” and “Ginny Georgia,” Apple TV+’s “Severance” and Paramount+’s “1923.”
