Rick Moranis and Marcia Strassman star in Disney’s “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids.”

Here’s some big news about a small matter: Rick Moranis will return as Wayne Szalinski in Disney’s latest sequel to “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids.”

According to an exclusive on Deadline, the comedic actor will star in “Shrunk.” The movie also will star Josh Gad as Moranis’ son, whose attempts at science — like his dad — result in shrinking his kids.

Deadline reports the film will be directed by Joe Johnson, the man who headed the 1989 original.

There were two sequels, 1992’s “Honey, I Blew up the Kid” and 1997’s direct-to-video “Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves.”

According to The Disney Insider, the movie is scheduled to begin shooting this spring in Toronto or Atlanta. And it’s slated for a theatrical release and not just on Disney+.

It’s quite a coup to get Moranis out of a self-imposed retirement. He stopped making films in 1997 to raise his children. Although he continued to do voice-over work with Disney (“Brother Bear”).

Moranis filmed a documentary for Netflix with his SCTV cohorts in Martin Scorsese’s “An Afternoon With SCTV.” The film was recorded in 2018 at Toronto’s Elgin Theatre with Moranis and native Pittsburgher Joe Flaherty and Eugene Levy, Catherine O’Hara, Andrea Martin, Martin Short and Dave Thomas.
