'Stand By Me' stars to appear at film's 40th anniversary screening in Pittsburgh
A generation-defining coming-of-age film is turning 40 in 2026, and its stars will be celebrating with a stop in Pittsburgh to reminisce.
“Stand By Me” was released on Aug. 22, 1986, based on Stephen King’s novella “The Body” and directed by Rob Reiner. Actors Corey Feldman, Wil Wheaton and Jerry O’Connell will visit the Carnegie Music Hall of Oakland on Friday, March 13, 2026, for a screening of the film and a post-movie discussion in the program “Stand By Me: The Film and Its Stars 40 Years Later.”
The movie follows a quartet of 12-year-old boys in their quest to find a dead body during Labor Day weekend in 1959. In addition to Feldman, Wheaton and O’Connell, “Stand By Me” starred the late River Phoenix, who passed in 1993 at age 23. According to a press release, the 40th anniversary celebration will include memories of Phoenix as shared by his co-stars.
“Stand By Me” was an initial success both critically and financially. It earned $52 million at the box office against an $8 million budget and maintains a score of 92% on film review aggregate site rottentomatoes.com.
Tickets for the Pittsburgh event will go on sale this Friday at 10 a.m. at etix.com, druskyent.com and millsentertainment.com. VIP and premium VIP packages will also be available for purchase.
