Q: I wonder if Edgar Snyder the lawyer is going to retire? I keep seeing his commercials, and it seems like he is introducing more people that work for him.

— Krissy, via Facebook

Rob: While Snyder is not in the courtroom on a regular basis, the firm says he has no plans to be “retired” in the traditional sense.

“He is still very much an active part of the firm, is a licensed lawyer and works in an honorary ‘of counsel’ position,” said Shannon Botts, the firm’s public and community relations manager. “In this role, he serves as a trusted adviser to the five lawyers who own the firm and run it on a day-to-day basis.”

Those five lawyers are the faces that Krissy has seen in the firm’s ads recently: Rob Fisher, Armand Leonelli, Jason Lichtenstein, Brad Trust and Christine Zaremski-Young.

Snyder transitioned into his “of counsel” role, a common practice in law where an attorney maintains a relationship with a firm but is not a partner, more than a decade ago.

“Edgar laid the foundation that has grown the firm from just a few employees 40 years ago to over 140 people today,” Botts said. “He intends to always remain active with Edgar Snyder & Associates and the Western Pennsylvania community as a whole. The company continues to honor his legacy and to embrace the principles emphasized by Edgar, which are the backbone of the firm: Always put clients first, work and live with excellence, be honest, be the shining example of excellence in the community, treat everyone with respect, work as a team and give back.”

Q: Since the ACC will now show some football and basketball games on The CW and with Pittsburgh’s WPCW-TV dropping the CW affiliation, what will become of any Pitt games that are televised on the CW?

— Josh, via email

Rob: Those games will still air on The CW nationally. As noted last month, CW executives seem confident they will have new CW affiliates in the markets where they are losing them, but so far no new Pittsburgh affiliation agreement has been announced. (My money is on WPNT, Channel 22, becoming the new home of The CW in Pittsburgh when a new affiliation deal is revealed.)

Q: Why are more Pirates games being televised on either Apple TV+ or Peacock? I pay enough for cable and am not interested in subscribing to either of those.

— Charlie, via email

Rob: Streaming services and major league sports teams do not care too much about what consumers or fans want. They care about making money.

As sports rights continue to increase and become unaffordable for linear networks, streaming services have started to step up and become a home for some games.

That said, it’s still an extremely small number of Pirates games that appear on Apple TV+ or Peacock. In fact, no Pirates games appear on either streaming service from now until the end of the season.

Like it or not, more sports will stream in the future. Reportedly, the Pac-12 is considering a deal with Apple TV+ for after the 2023-24 season.
