Trib Total Media TV writer Rob Owen answers reader questions every Wednesday at TribLive.com in a column that also appears in the Sunday Tribune-Review.

Q: Why did James Corden choose to leave “The Late Late Show?” I enjoyed that program.

— Gary, Leechburg

Rob: Corden said in several interviews that he always saw hosting “The Late Late Show” as “an adventure” and never as his “final destination.”

In addition to the CBS show, Corden has also been working on other projects that took him away from his family. He remembers having to leave his family to film on a Sunday last year and his 10-year-old son was disappointed.

“I got in the car and I called my wife Jules and I said, I’ve realized, best case scenario, we have six more summers where Max even remotely wants to be around us and I cannot waste another one,” Corden said on “The Drew Barrymore Show.” “If I really want to do this other work, that cannot be at the expense of our children, our family … that is really all it comes down to.”

Later this year, CBS will replace “The Late Show” with a revival of the former Comedy Central series “@Midnight.”

Q: I read in your May 16 column that ABC canceled “The Company You Keep.” My wife and I really enjoyed it. How bad must the ratings have been not to give it another season?

— Rick, via email

Rob: While the ratings for “The Company You Keep” were relatively steady through its one-season tenure – around 2.2 million live + same-day viewers per episode — it still ranked among ABC’s four lowest-rated series and all four of those shows got canceled.

Q: Is there any word about the return of “Resident Alien” and “What We Do in the Shadows?”

— Dave, Ross

Rob: “Shadows” returns for its fifth season at 10 p.m. July 13 on FX.

Syfy hasn’t announced a return date for “Resident Alien” – and the writers’ strike may alter the network’s original plans – but my best guess is it will return later this year for its already-shortened third season.

Q: We have been fans of ABC’s “Holey Moley” since its first season and look forward to it each summer. Sadly, I haven’t been able to find information on its renewal for season five this year … or, its cancellation. What’s going on?

— Jessica, Monessen

Rob: “Holey Moley” is not on ABC’s summer schedule and hasn’t been renewed for a fifth season but it hasn’t been canceled.

“We’re still in discussions with ABC,” said executive producer Chris Culvenor, who launches a new series this summer with Fox’s “Stars on Mars” (8 p.m. June 5, WPGH-TV). “They love the show, it’s one of those things of finding the right time for it. But I’m glad your viewer is concerned.”

Q: Will there be another season of “Hoarders” and when does it start?

— Nancy, Greensburg

Rob: Season 14 of “Hoarders” debuts at 9 p.m. May 29 on A&E.
