TV Q&A: Why isn’t ‘Live’ live some days?

Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos co-host “Live with Kelly and Mark” on ABC.

Trib Total Media TV writer Rob Owen answers reader questions every Wednesday at TribLive.com in a column that also appears in the Sunday Tribune-Review.

Q: I’ve noticed that “Live with Kelly and Mark” has now a small previously recorded message that pops up at the beginning of every episode.

Has the show always been this way and when exactly is it being recorded? How do they get away with calling it live when it really isn’t?

— Tony, Valencia

Rob: Friday’s episodes have long been pre-taped in advance but my understanding is some other days, especially Thursday shows, also are recorded in advance depending on the hosts’ schedules. But most episodes each week are still live.

Q: Just saw where “Suits LA” was canceled. I watched one episode and immediately noticed the plot being used was just a remake of a plot from the original show and NONE of the originals were in it! Later, I saw that Gabriel Macht was going to appear. Interesting — some of the press releases hinted that everyone from the original show is returning and even that Jay Harrington would be reprising his role as Mark Meadows. Of course, none of that ever really happened. When something is promised but not delivered, the result is evident!

Rob: There is a difference between announcements and rumors. What you saw were rumors. NBC never announced — and would never announce — that someone is returning until they have a signed contract. It is best not to ascribe rumors to official pronouncements.

Q: I just finished watching the first season of “Sanctuary: A Witch’s Tale” on AMC. At the end of the season finale, they promoted season two with a couple of clips showing Sarah and Harper returning to Sanctuary, but didn’t say when it might air. It seems that, although this was shot in England, it is totally a U.S. production by AMC Studios. Do you have any information on when season two may air? The clips they showed made it seem like production is already completed on season two.

— John, Green Tree

Rob: Streaming services AMC+ and Sundance Now announced a six-episode second season pickup for “Sanctuary” in August 2024 with plans for it to debut in 2025. Filming began in Ireland in August 2024. AMC publicists did not respond in early May when I attempted to get clarity on when this year “Sanctuary” will return with new episodes.

Q: I was watching WTAE’s 5 p.m. news on May 15 and they had a short story about the loss of electricity from the intense storm earlier in May. It mentioned a survey for residents of PA District 17, represented by Chris Deluzio, to report people’s experience of having electricity restored. Mine was out for nearly five full days, so I wanted to answer the survey as I live in PA-17, which they said could be accessed from their website. So I went to WTAE.com and looked thoroughly, but could not find it. I looked again to ensure I didn’t miss it, and still no link to the survey. So, when they make these proclamations, is there actual coordination between their website staff and the on-air staff?

— Alan, Gibsonia

Rob: There certainly should be. Usually, stories are put on the home page if viewers are directed to something online during a newscast. Whether Alan missed it or WTAE didn’t post it or it posted to the homepage after Alan looked, I have no way of knowing.

I tried to find it by doing a search at WTAE.com on “Chris Deluzio” and had no luck. But if you search for “Chris Deluzio survey” or “Chris Deluzio WTAE storm damage,” then the story pops right up at wtae.com/article/allegheny-county-storm-damage-continues/64775078.
