TV Talk: Michael Keaton talks Steelers with Seth Meyers on 'Late Night'
Seth Meyers, host of NBC’s “Late Night,” didn’t grow up in Pittsburgh, but his father is from East Liberty and the late-night host has made no secret of his love for the Steelers, even going so far as working references into an episode of IFC’s “Documentary Now” that he wrote.
“Even when I’m working on something with nothing to do with the Steelers, 5% percent of my brain is thinking about the Steelers,” Meyers told me in 2019.
So it should come as no surprise that when Pittsburgh native Michael Keaton was on a “Late Night” episode that aired in the wee hours of Thursday morning to tout his new Netflix movie “Worth” (streaming Sept. 3), talk turned to the Steelers, with Meyers asking Keaton how he felt about the upcoming season.
“I’m a little nervous,” Keaton said before referencing Ben Roethlisberger. “Thirty-nine ain’t young if you’re a quarterback.”
Keaton then told a story of watching the Steelers win Super Bowl XLIII in Tampa in 2009 and texting congratulations to Steelers coach Mike Tomlin (Meyers said he’s jealous that Keaton texts with Tomlin) and Tomlin texted Keaton back.
“Why would you text me back? You just won the Super Bowl,” Keaton said, incredulous, before suggesting they team up to do an episode of “Late Night” from Pittsburgh someday.
“’Burgh Week,” Meyers suggested. “We’ll get all of the Mount Rushmore of ‘Burgh people.”
