Unsurprisingly, given that the show’s writers visited Pittsburgh in April, Paramount+ finally confirmed the renewal of “Mayor of Kingstown” for a third season.

The show was expected to return to Pittsburgh to film its third season in August but the writers’ and actors’ strikes precluded that from happening. Once the strike ends and scripts are complete, it’s expected that filming on “Kingstown” will return to Pittsburgh.

“Mayor of Kingstown” stars Jeremy Renner, who was injured in a snowplow accident in January but has largely recovered. Renner plays Mike McLusky, head of a family of power brokers in Kingstown, Mich., where the main business is prisons.

Paramount+’s announcement did not list the show’s season three cast. Dianne Wiest’s character’s life hung in the balance at the end of season two so it’s unclear if she will return.

Kept/canceled

“The Circus: Inside the Greatest Political Show on Earth” returns for its eighth season at 7 p.m. Oct. 8 on Paramount+ with Showtime.

The current 29th season of HBO’s “Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel” will be its last.
