The School of Communication at Point Park University will celebrate its first Myron Cope Day on Feb. 7, celebrating the Pittsburgh broadcasting legend at 200 Lawrence Hall.

Three panels will include a look at his career as a print journalist (10-10:45 a.m.), broadcast journalist (10:45-11:30 a.m.) and as a radio color commentator (11:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m.).

The event concludes with a Myron Cope sound-alike competition at 12:15 p.m., which includes a heat for high school students and the chance to win one of five $500 scholarships (enter videos by posting to YouTube and emailing a link to rankney@pointpark.edu). A second heat for event attendees will be held on-site with the chance to win Point Park gear.

Details on the panels and access to ticketing, capped at 60 people, can be found on Eventbrite.

All events will be live-streamed here.

WQED receives award

Two members of WQED Multimedia’s education department received national recognition for their work. Managing director of education Gina Masciola and director of education Cathy Cook received the Bobbi English Champion of Children Award from Sesame Workshop, PBS and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting for their dedication to the enrichment and engagement of children locally. The honor includes $15,000 from Sesame Workshop to WQED to be used to support early childhood work that reaches children in Pittsburgh.

Quinto, Porter in ‘Proud Family’

In addition to starring in “Chaperone,” currently screening online at the virtual Sundance Film Festival, Pittsburgh native Zachary Quinto will be heard voicing a character in the animated Disney+ sequel series “The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder,” premiering Feb. 23. Quinto and fellow Pittsburgh native Billy Porter play a married couple with two kids, new characters in “The Proud Family” story.

“It’s funny how things happen, because we went after Billy and Zachary. That was our wish at the top of our wish list,” said “Proud Family” executive producer Ralph Farquhar during a recent Disney+ press conference as part of the Television Critics Association winter 2022 virtual press tour. “And then when we started talking to them, Zachary says, ‘Oh, yeah. Billy was my college instructor in Pittsburgh.’”

“It was kismet after that,” said creator/executive producer Bruce W. Smith. “We had no idea that they even knew each other. And then come to find out they were like sensei and student. It was like, wow, that’s fantastic.”

Premiere dates

CNN’s “Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy” returns with new episodes at 9 p.m. March 13. … “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” is back for its ninth season at 11 p.m. Feb. 20.

Renewed/revived

Netflix officially ordered a second season of “Squid Game” and will reboot the former Food Network culinary competition series “Iron Chef.”
