TV Talk: ‘Shōgun,’ ‘The Bear' sweep Emmy nominations
HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Though it may seem like viewers just watched the Emmys — the strike-delayed January telecast honored shows from the 2022-23 TV season — the ceremony will return to its usual September airing as it recognizes programs that aired/streamed between June 2023 and May 2024.
FX’s “Shōgun” took home 25 nominations in the “The 76th Emmy Awards” while FX-produced Hulu series “The Bear” had 23.
Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building” took 21 nominations, including for stars Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez, and HBO’s “True Detective: Night Country” received 19 nods followed by Netflix’s “The Crown” (18) and NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” (17).
Max’s “Hacks,” Amazon Prime Video’s “Fallout,” Apple TV+’s “The Morning Show” and Prime Video’s “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” each received 16 nominations.
First-time Emmy nominees include Robert Downy Jr. for supporting actor/limited series for HBO’s “The Sympathizer” and Da’Vine Joy Randolph as guest actor in Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building.” Lily Gladstone (supporting actress for Hulu’s “Under the Bridge”) and Kali Reis (supporting actress for HBO’s “True Detective: Night Country”) are the first indigenous women to receive Emmy nominations for acting.
Netflix garnered 107 nominations, FX got 93 and HBO/Max received 91. It’s the first time since 2016 that HBO has had fewer than 100 nominations, per Variety.
“The 76th Emmy Awards” will air at 8 p.m. Sept. 15 on ABC.
