After debuting a teaser in June, Showtime has released a trailer for the nine-episode first season of “American Rust,” which is set and currently filming in Western Pennsylvania in advance of the show’s 10 p.m. Sept. 12 premiere.

This new trailer leans more into the story involving Del Harris (Jeff Daniels), the police chief of fictional Buell, Pa., who gets wrapped up in a murder investigation involving the son (Alex Neustaedter, “Colony”) of the woman he loves (Maura Tierney, “The Affair”).

“American Rust” is based on the Philipp Meyer 2009 novel of the same name that’s set in Fayette County. The show, based at 31st Street Studios in the Strip District, has been filming all over Western Pennsylvania for months.

In June, writer/showrunner Dan Futterman (“The Looming Tower”) praised local crews working on “American Rust.”

“Eighty (percent) to 90% of our crew is local, and everybody is terrific and very talented; great local casting, too,” Futterman said of his first shoot outside a major production center such as New York, Los Angeles or Vancouver. “Pittsburgh is becoming more like a minor hub than anything. It’s not like you’re going and shooting in Lincoln, Neb., or something like that. It’s a place where movies and shows are coming, but I hope not too many so if we get a second season we can get our crew back.”
