This week, Entertainment Weekly named the cast of “The Pitt” the “entertainers of 2025” in advance of the show’s Jan. 8 return for its second season on HBO Max.

In its exclusive interview with the show’s stars from the set while filming the show’s second season – other interviews with “The Pitt” cast are embargoed until Jan. 5 – star Katherine LaNasa, who plays nurse Dana Evans, compared growing interest in the show, including its September best drama Emmy win, to surfing.

“It’s like the Emmy just got you on the wave,” said LaNasa, who won the best supporting actress Emmy. “Now you have to ride the surfboard into the shore.”

As season one ended at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center, Dr. Robby (Noah Wyle) had a breakdown following a shooting at PittFest, compounded by the realization that his colleague, Dr. Langdon (Patrick Ball), had stolen drugs from the ER. Robby ordered Langdon to rehab but didn’t fire him.

As season two begins, 10 months have passed and it’s now July 4, 2026.

“Robby was kind of hoping that Langdon wasn’t gonna be back to work [before Robby heads off on a three-month sabbatical],” “Pitt” executive producer R. Scott Gemmill told EW.com. “It’s only a matter of time before they have to work together and try and resolve this. And whether they do or not remains to be seen.”

Wyle tells EW that Robby feels like he failed Langdon as a mentor. And in season two, Robby may also be subconsciously jealous of Langdon.

“Langdon represents somebody who’s actually gone off and done the work and faced their demons and done the therapeutic process and come back clear-headed and clear-hearted,” Wyle told EW. “And to somebody who has not begun that process, that feels a bit like kryptonite.”

Following “The Pitt’s” Jan. 8 premiere, which includes scenes filmed in Pittsburgh in September, new episodes will debut weekly on Thursday, just as they did in season one.
