WTAE promotes Elena LaQuatra
WTAE-TV reporter Elena LaQuatra, who has been filling in as morning traffic reporter since July, has been promoted to that position as well as noon weekday newscast anchor on Channel 4, effective next week.
LaQuatra, a Mt. Lebanon native, first worked at WTAE in 2015 as a digital content creator. She left for a stint as an anchor/reporter at an Erie station before returning to Channel 4 as a general assignment reporter in 2018.
After contracting bacterial meningitis at age 4, LaQuatra became 100% deaf in both ears. She credits cochlear implants and studies at DePaul School for Hearing and Speech for her ability to hear and speak.
Kelly Sasso, who has been the noon anchor, will continue anchoring at 4 p.m. and will have a greater presence in the 5 and 6 p.m. newscasts.
