Mural painting activities with artist Kyle Holbrook are planned June 21-23 at the Clemente Museum in Lawrenceville. Shown are images from inside the museum commemorating Pirates great Roberto Clemente.

A larger-than-life-size mural of Pirate’s great Roberto Clemente will soon grace the side of the Clemente Museum in Lawrenceville.

The museum has partnered with local mural artist Kyle Holbrook on the project.

“Holbrook’s mural painting style encourages community members to participate in the painting process with him. In conjunction with the mural painting, the museum is throwing a weekend of festivities free and open to the public,” according to the museum.

Weekend festivities will include:

June 21

• 10 a.m.-noon: Pittsburgh youth will participate in the painting process with Holbrook

• 3-8 p.m.: Public mural painting, food trucks, Engine House 25 wines, Allegheny City Brewing Co. beer and music by George Jones Latin Jazz Group

June 22

• 11 a.m.-3 p.m.: Museum open house; $10 entry fee

June 23

• 10 a.m.-1 p.m.: Brunch and mural painting; catering from Lola’s Eatery, Espresso A Mano coffee and mimosas from Engine House 25 Wines.

All events in the parking lots are free.

The Clemente Museum is housed inside of Engine House 25, a restored 1800s firehouse at 3339 Penn Ave.

The museum’s mission is to preserve and educate about Clemente’s legacy. It houses many objects, memorabilia and images from throughout Clemente’s life.

The 18-year member of the Pirates died in a 1972 plane crash while on a humanitarian mission to deliver aid to earthquake victims in Nicaragua.

Holbrook is a Pittsburgh native and longtime Pirates fan. He received a grant from The Pittsburgh Foundation’s Advancing Black Arts in Pittsburgh initiative. He has done murals in various locations throughout Pittsburgh, as well as nationally and internationally, the museum says.
