Art lovers know how easy it is to get lost in the paintings of Vincent Van Gogh.
Now they can be surrounded by the brush strokes of the Dutch master’s works in the Immersive Van Gogh Exhibit, coming to Pittsburgh in September.
The show promises “500,000 cubic feet of monumental projections animating Vincent Van Gogh’s oeuvre. Wander through entrancing, moving images that highlight brushstrokes, detail, and color – truly illuminating the mind of the genius,” according to the website.
That includes more than 60,000 frames of video and 90 million pixels.
Tickets are available for select Pittsburgh dates from Sept. 23-30 at a yet undisclosed location.
“About two weeks to one month in advance, we’ll announce the location to build up the buzz again,” said Solange Sinclair, senior publicist for Lobeline Communications, the public relations firm representing the exhibition.
“The show’s 360-degree views literally allow the viewer into the mind of Van Gogh,” Sinclair said. “The paintings come to life. For example, you’ll see a shooting star in ‘Starry Night’ and birds flying overhead.
“You’ll be seeing and feeling as Van Gogh was seeing and feeling as he was creating his paintings.”
The exhibit was conceived and designed by creative director and Italian film producer Massimiliano Siccardi, with soundtrack by Italian visual artist and composer Luca Longobardi, who both pioneered immersive digital art experiences in France.
The score combines piano with experimental electronic music.
The installation includes Van Gogh’s readily recognizable masterpieces including “Mangeurs de pommes de terre (The Potato Eaters, 1885),” “Nuit étoilée (Starry Night, 1889),” “Les Tournesols (Sunflowers, 1888)” and “La Chambre à coucher (The Bedroom, 1889)” and many other landscapes, night scenes, portraits and still life paintings.
The exhibit was seen by more than 2 million visitors in Paris and had a sold-out run in Toronto. It has been traveling across the United States to cities including New York, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Dallas, Houston and others.
