Latrobe Art Center is asking both accomplished and amateur artists to share their homemade art tutorial videos on its social media accounts. Here, instructor Elmer Knizner paints during a 2019 landscape watercolor class at the center.

Latrobe Art Center wants to keep teaching and sharing art during its coronavirus-related closure.

The center is asking anyone who would like to participate to share an art-making video tutorial via its social media accounts with the hashtag #HomeStudioLAC.

The center is hoping to be able to share “a series of simple, or more detailed, art tutorials that we’ll be posting while Latrobe Art Center is closed as a precautionary measure against the spread of covid-19,” according to a release.

“Are you the artsy type? We need your help! If you are an artist, a crafter, or just a dabbler in the arts, we want to share what you create,” the release says. “This could be your particular brand of art, or a simple tutorial on a basic technique, or experimenting with a new technique or method.

“We’ll take anything — from how to draw a simple cat, to thumbprint art, to paper mache, to “happy trees” and even toilet-paper origami,” the release adds.

In addition to sharing on the center’s social media accounts, videos can be emailed to info@latrobeartcenter.org.

Executive Director Lauren Buches introduced the series with a St. Patrick’s Day themed “shamrock stamp” video.

The center at 819 Ligonier Street is currently closed through March 29, and all classes and events scheduled during the closure will be rescheduled. Refunds will be given to patrons who cannot attend a rescheduled class or event.

Ricolita’s Cafe inside the center is open 9 a.m.-3 p.m. weekdays for takeout.

Buches notes that the best way to reach center staff during the closure is by the above-mentioned email address.
