Fort Ligonier will host a June 27 lecture by Douglas Bradburn, president and CEO of George Washington’s Mount Vernon, entitled “George Washington’s West: The Making of a Revolutionary Leader.”
The evening will begin with a 5:30 p.m. reception, followed at 6:15 p.m. by the lecture and Q-and-A session.
The program is free and open to the public.
The former founding director of the Fred W. Smith National Library for the Study of George Washington at Mount Vernon, Bradburn is an award-winning author and well-known scholar of early American history.
He has written and edited three books and numerous articles and book chapters, specializing in the history of the American founding and leadership and the history of American citizenship.
“We are honored to have (Bradburn) make the same journey from Virginia that young George Washington made during his formative time in the French and Indian War,” says Erica Nuckles, the fort’s director of history and collections.
“It was at places like Fort Ligonier where Washington learned how to be the effective leader he became in the fight for American independence,” she says.
Since opening the Washington Library, Bradburn has expanded programming at Mount Vernon, built a research fellowship program, led the creation of award-winning digital educational products and established a leadership program recognized by HR.com as one of the country’s best, according to fort officials.
Bradburn previously served as history professor and director of graduate studies at SUNY Binghamton University, leaving as its history faculty chair.
