The weekend after Thanksgiving offers an array of shopping opportunities, from Black Friday to Small Business Saturday to Museum Store Sunday.

On Nov. 29, about 1,600 museum stores across all 50 states and 24 countries will participate in this year’s edition of the special event, showcasing collections of items that illustrate and support their missions, with many offering discounts and other specials.

For example, Fort Ligonier is offering 25% off its entire museum store, with all proceeds going to preservation projects and education programs.

“Museum Store Sunday is a great way to not only find unique 18th-century-inspired Christmas gifts and toys, but to support the Fort,” said Julie Donovan, director of marketing and public relations.

“Products found in museum stores are curated just like the works displayed in their respective institutions, with many items often developed exclusively by the museum, resulting in distinctive and unique offerings,” according to the Museum Store Sunday website.

“Museum Store Sunday is a day celebrating the unique, curated selection of merchandise found in museum stores, like our Museum Shop, all over the country,” said Claire Ertl, director of marketing and public relations at The Westmoreland Museum of American Art. “All weekend long, Friday through Sunday, we will be offering a special discount of 20% off all regularly priced items, in-store and online.

“To receive 20% off when shopping online, use the code NOV20,” she said.
