Art enthusiasts will have more than enough places to go in Murrysville during the next month, with art shows and standing exhibits all over the municipality.
On Oct. 18 and 19, the Murrysville Woman’s Club will sponsor its annual art show at Redstone Highlands.
It will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct 18, and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 19.
Sue and Dan Yaklich of Delmont will also have a standing gallery on display at Redstone Highlands which runs through the end of November. The couple is entering three pieces each in the woman’s club show.
“I put entries in the woman’s club show that are new and different mediums than the ones in the gallery show, which are mostly photography,” Sue Yaklich said. “The woman’s club show pieces are pastels, and a large one will be dyes on silk.”
Yaklich’s husband Dan is submitting watercolor pieces for both displays.
The woman’s club show will be judged by Whitehall Arts President Diane Murray. She studied drawing, composition, ceramics, and design at San Jose State College and has taken workshops in watercolor, acrylics, photography, oil and pastel.
She taught middle and high school students in Pittsburgh Public Schools for more than 30 years and used art to involve her students in writing and reading.
A few minutes away at the Murrysville Community Library, Bob Bickers of Murrysville will be blasting into orbit with artwork commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing and the missions that followed.
The exhibit is sponsored by the East Suburban Artists League and a new artist is featured each month.
Working mostly in oil and acrylics, Bickers created a series of paintings depicting the Apollo astronauts exploring the lunar surface.
The exhibit will be open to the public through Oct. 31, and most of the pieces are available for sale.
And finally, the 44th annual Christian Art Show at Calvary Lutheran Church is seeking artist submissions through Oct. 28 for its show, set for Nov. 9 and 10. Entry forms are available at the church office or by calling 724-327-2898 or visiting CalvaryLCMS.org.
