Saint Vincent College senior Sydney Hoffman will display her artwork in a solo exhibition in Latrobe Art Center’s Annex Gallery.
“Caught in a Glimpse: Portraiture of Human Expression” will open March 5 and run through April 2. A free reception with appetizers and refreshments is planned for 6-8 p.m. March 12.
This is the first time the center will feature a Saint Vincent student artist in a solo exhibition, according to executive director Lauren Buches.
“She is a prolific and talented artist with the ability to capture human expression,” Buches says. “I believe that her exhibition will introduce the community to just how comprehensive and excellent the art education program is at Saint Vincent College.”
“Hoffman’s work focuses on the human figure and regional architecture as expressions of a hidden humanity,” according to a release.” Her subjects are frequently inspired by other artists, travel and previous educators.”
“I have always had a deep interest in human anatomy and art,” Hoffman says. “I am interested in how the nuances of facial expressions and body language often reveals the depth of a person. Visitors will be able to experience my black and white portraits in a variety of media.”
A native of St. Marys and a graduate of Elk County Catholic High School, Hoffman is an art education major currently student teaching in the Greater Latrobe School District.
Hours for the center at 819 Ligonier St. are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Mondays-Fridays and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturdays.
