Hempfield Area High School exhibiting artist, Ashley Stone, (R), 17, stands near her expressive portrait pencil drawing, (shown left), with her mother, Ann Richmond, of Hempfield Township, during the opening reception for the “Artists of the 21st Century” student art exhibit, held at the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art at Ligonier Valley on Feb. 21, 2016. This year’s exhibit will be on display during a children’s pop-up paper sculpture workshop for children on Feb. 15.

The Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art in Ligonier Township will host a paper pop-up sculpture card workshop for children.

The 2 to 4 p.m. Feb. 15 event is to teach children ages 8 to 12 to create the cards.

Participants will learn how to turn a flat sheet of paper into fascinating, 3-D sculptural forms. No matter the subject, the viewer will find a surprise upon opening the card and finding the moving parts.

This workshop coincides with the “Artists of the 21st Century” exhibition featuring works by students throughout Westmoreland County. Those attending the workshop also can explore their peers’ work.

Cost is $20, and reservations are required by Feb. 13.
