Aerosmith, Eric Clapton, Bruce Springsteen among top concerts to see around Pittsburgh in September
Pittsburgh will see an extremely busy September at PPG Paints Arena, with 11 shows there during the month. Here’s a look at the most notable shows coming to the area in September:
September’s top shows
Sept. 6: Aerosmith, The Black Crowes at PPG Paints Arena
The veteran Boston rockers will celebrate their 50+ years as a band when they bring what they’re calling their farewell Peace Out tour to PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh.
Known for songs like “Sweet Emotion,” “Dream On” and “Walk This Way,” Aerosmith are led by singer Steven Tyler and guitarist Joe Perry, sometimes referred to as the Toxic Twins.
“This is no bull(crap), man, he’s probably my best friend through all of it,” Perry told Classic Rock magazine recently. “We just know we’re different people.”
Sept. 8: Eric Clapton, Jimmie Vaughn at PPG Paints Arena
Legendary guitarist Eric Clapton is launching his short North American tour in Pittsburgh.
The guitar icon known for songs like “Layla,” “Tears in Heaven” and “Wonderful Tonight” has been in the news in the past few years more for his political viewpoints than for his music.
“I’m making a rod for my own back by talking about (the covid-19 vaccine),” he said in a 2022 interview with The Real Music Observer, “but one thing about the (vaccine) I would like to make clear – because I have to keep reestablishing it – is I’m neither anti or pro. I’m freedom of choice, really, and respect for other people, and kindness, and the things that used to motivate, or were things to aspire to. Aspirations towards goodness. And … in an abstract way, religion – I believe in God and I think there’s a purpose. And this seems to be my purpose for the moment.”

Sept. 12 and 14: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band at PPG Paints Arena
“The Boss” is coming to Pittsburgh for a pair of shows — with a day off in-between — at PPG Paints Arena.
Bruce Springsteen, who regularly puts on shows of more than three hours, faced criticism earlier this year after dynamic pricing led to some concert tickets skyrocketing to $5,000 each.
“I know it was unpopular with some fans,” Springsteen told Rolling Stone. “But if there’s any complaints on the way out, you can have your money back.”
