Donnie Iris has canceled an upcoming appearance with REO Speedwagon because of ongoing health issues.
Western Pennsylvania’s “King Cool” was scheduled to appear June 21 at the Foundation Amphitheater in Youngstown.
A Facebook post says that Iris has been receiving treatment for cancer and, while his prognosis is good, he “needs more time to heal.”
The post also says Iris intends to resume performing July 24, appearing with Foreigner and Loverboy at Blossom Music Center in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.
Iris was diagnosed with cancer shortly after his 80th birthday bash, which took place March 11 at the UPMC Events Center in Moon, where Iris and the Cruisers were joined by The Clarks and The Vindys.
That sold-out show found 4,000 fans rocking out, many of them clad in “80 Years of Cool” T-shirts.
The REO Speedwagon concert in Youngstown will go on, with Levon, a Levon Helm tribute act, replacing Iris and his band.
