Johnstown hosts the annual Flood City Music Festival, not South by Southwest. But those two directions perfectly describe two of the festival’s 2019 headliners.

The Arizona-based Gin Blossoms and New Orleans-based Cowboy Mouth will headline the two-day festival, set for Aug. 2 and 3 at Peoples Natural Gas Park in Johnstown.

They’ll be joined by 13 other bands including Ghost Light, Dale Watson, Red Baraat, Bill Kirchen, Davina & the Vagabonds, National Park Radio, the Sue Foley Band, the Plate Scrapers, Adler & Barath Blues Band, Jeff Perigo & Friends, Afro n’At, Essential Machine, Elias Khouri and Jeff Webb & the Delectable Sound.

R.J. Dietrich, guitarist and vocalist for Greensburg band Essential Machine, said he is excited to take part in the festival.

“We’ve played the main stage at the Three Rivers Arts Festival, and there were a good bit of people there,” Dietrich said. “But this is definitely going to be one of our biggest shows, for sure.”

Ron Carnevali, who this year returns to his role as festival chairman for the first time since 2012, was anticipating bringing multiple national touring acts to the festival.

“Gin Blossoms is an act with great name recognition and enormous appeal – they may have made their name in the ’90s, but they’re still recording and going strong, and we’re thrilled to be presenting them on Saturday night,” Carnevali said.

“Cowboy Mouth’s live show is like a revival tent, with one of the most talented front men in the business,” he continued. “Ghost Light is a new jam-band super-group that’s having a breakout year, and Brownout presents Brown Sabbath is a horn band, members of the Latin funk band Grupo Fantasma playing Black Sabbath covers.”

Tickets range from $23 to $55.

Proceeds from the festival will benefit the Johnstown Area Heritage Association, which operates the Johnstown Flood Museum, The Heritage Discovery Center, and the Johnstown Children’s Museum.
