Many Mac Miller fans are still mourning his death just over three years ago.
But now, at least, they have a new musical release of the Pittsburgh-born rapper and record producer’s material to look forward to.
On Oct. 15, Miller’s mixtape “Faces” will be available on all streaming services as well as on vinyl for the first time since its original debut on May 11, 2014, (Mother’s Day).
Rolling Stone rated “Faces” the 18th best rap album of 2014. It was originally offered as a free download.
In his lyrics, Miller often referred to his battle with substance abuse. He died at his home in Los Angeles from what the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office ruled an accidental drug overdose of cocaine, fentanyl and alcohol on Sept 7, 2018.
Miller was born Malcolm James McCormick on Jan. 19, 1992 and grew up in Pittsburgh’s Point Breeze neighborhood. He graduated from Allderdice High School in Squirrel Hill.
By 2009, he had adopted the stage name Mac Miller. In November, 2011 he released his first studio album “Blue Slide Park” which debuted at the top of the Billboard 200. Following his death, thousands of fans held a vigil for Miller on Sept. 11, 2018 at Pittsburgh’s Blue Slide Park which had inspired the album title. They meet there every year to remember him.
In 2020, Miller’s family announced the release of his first posthumous album “Circles” which Miller had been working on before his death. It included “Good News,” a single that became his highest-charting song as a lead artist – it peaked at No. 17 on the Billboard Hot 100.
