The eighth installment of an annual music festival is getting a new name this year: the Kip London Memorial Pittsburgh Blues & Roots Festival.
This year’s event, scheduled for July 25-27 at the Pittsburgh Shrine Center Pavilion in Harmar, will pay tribute to London, a Greensburg native who died in 2022. A posthumous album, “The Last Dance,” will also released on July 25 by MoMojo Records.
The festival, which benefits Band Together Pittsburgh, features local, regional and national blues and roots acts.
Friday night includes a tribute to noted blues fan Mike Lange, the longtime Pittsburgh Penguins announcer who died in February, as well as a guitar throwdown and a set from Jason Born, the Western Pa. International Blues Challenge winner.
The full schedule hasn’t been announced yet, but weekend performances include the Nighthawks, “The Sauce Boss” Bill Wharton, Solomon Hicks, Alexis P. Suter, Jim Donovan & The Sun King Warriors, Jimmy Adler & The Soulville Horns and The Fleshman Singers.
