Pittsburgh local music spotlight: Broom
The band Broom only started a few years ago, and they don’t take it for granted when a crowd is singing their songs back to them. Much like when they opened for Winger’s Reb Beach at Jergel’s in 2023, playing to a receptive audience.
“It was the closest we’ve gotten to feeling like true rock stars in our short career so far,” guitarist Ben Filak said.
Their latest single, “I Wish I Knew,” came out last month.
“It’s a typical story of unrequited love wrapped in a catchy chorus and powerful guitar work,” Filak said. “I think it’s a story most can relate to, but it’s one that’s hard to put into words.”
Filak filled TribLive in on what else we should know about Broom:
Band: Broom
Band members: Noah Goisse (lead vocals); Bodie DuBreucq (backing vocals/guitar); Ben Filak (guitar); Caleb Beichner (bass); Carter Stasicha (drums)
Founding story: We started in 2021 as just a bunch of acquaintances who knew each other through our local high school’s marching band program (at Belle Vernon). Quickly we realized we had chemistry and decided to take it a little more seriously. As we learned each other’s tendencies, we got better at writing music together. Fast forward to now, we have a new singer and we’re starting to take off with plenty of shows in the near future.
For fans of: Classic rock bands with modern flavor. We hope to help bring back music with iconic guitar riffs, catchy hooks and just fun songs.
Influences: KISS (Filak); Van Halen (Stasicha); The Beatles (Beichner); Sleep Token (DuBreucq); Tool (Goisse)
Releases: “I Wish I Knew” single, April 2025; “Lost in the Dark” album, November 2024; “Broom” EP, February 2023
Next show: Millvale Music Festival , 7 p.m. May 17 at Playground Dropout
