Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra will hold its fifth annual Thanksgiving tradition concert, with free tickets for children available with adult ticket purchase.

Thanksgiving weekend kicks off the holiday season, and Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra gets things started with Strauss family favorites, from waltzes to polka.

Polish off the turkey and the pie and head to Heinz Hall, 600 Penn Ave., at 8 p.m. Nov. 29 or 2:30 p.m. Dec. 1 for the fifth annual BNY Mellon Grand Classics Thanksgiving Tradition.

Mellon and then BNY Mellon has sponsored the Grand Classics series since 2001, says orchestra spokeswoman Julie Goetz.

Adults purchasing a ticket can bring along a child (or grandchild) ages 6-17 to enjoy the music at no cost.

Program includes “Overture to Waldmeister,” “Be Embraced, Ye Millions!” “Egyptian March,” “Jockey Polka,” “Pizzicato Polka” and “Tick-Tock Polka.”

In addition to Strauss, audience members will enjoy the symphony’s premier of cellist Narek Hakhnazaryan playing Khachaturian’s Concerto-Rhapsody.

“His playing was like a perfectly honed signature, every flourish and curl executed with elegant ease,” according to the Times of London.
