Saint Vincent student troupe to present musical 'Into the Woods'

Saint Vincent College music instructor and producing artistic director Greggory Brandt will direct the Saint Vincent Players’ production of “Into the Woods,” running Feb. 20-22 at the Unity school.

Saint Vincent College Players are gearing up for four performances of the award-winning musical fantasy, “Into the Woods.”

Performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Feb. 20-22 and 2 p.m. Feb. 23 in the Performing Arts Center of the Robert S. Carey Student Center on the Unity campus.

Written by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine, “Into the Woods” intertwines plots from several Brothers Grimm and Charles Perrault fairy tales, with main characters taken from “Little Red Riding Hood,” “Jack and the Beanstalk,” “Cinderella” and “Rapunzel,” among others.

The musical debuted on Broadway in 1987 and won multiple Tony Awards, including Best Score, Best Book and Best Actress in a Musical.

Area students in the production include:

• Josh Hoffman of North Huntingdon, as Jack.

• Justin Massetto of Murrysville, as The Baker.

• Karen Dopico of Pittsburgh, as Cinderella’s stepmother.

• Paige Thatcher of Trafford, as Florinda.

• Frannie Andreola 0f Pittsburgh, as The Witch.

• Nicole Reyes of Pittsburgh, as Cinderella’s Mother.

• Josie Rodell of Latrobe, as Rapunzel.

• Nick Pietrusinski of Monroeville, as Rapunzel’s Prince.

• John Crocetti of Connellsville, as The Steward.

• Kate Kell of Apollo, as Snow White.

• Abby Uhrinek of Natrona Heights, as Sleeping Beauty.

The creative team also includes director Greggory Brandt, technical director Christopher Plummer, costume designer Beth Shari Steinberg and stage manager Serena Chase, a graduate student from Monroeville.

General admission tickets can be purchased at the door prior to each show. Admission is $15, or $10 for non-Saint Vincent students and children 12 and under.
