Sammy Hagar had some strong words about what he’d do to hit the road again.
Rolling Stone polled 14 veteran artists on touring and life without concerts during the coronavirus pandemic, and the former Van Halen member was among them.
When it came to playing shows again, Hagar was blunt.
“I’ll be comfortable playing a show before there’s a vaccine, if it’s declining and seems to be going away,” the 72-year-old rock star said.
“I’m going to make a radical statement here. This is hard to say without stirring somebody up, but truthfully, I’d rather personally get sick and even die, if that’s what it takes.”
Hagar went on to say that he’s not going to go around spreading the disease, “but there may be a time where we have to sacrifice.”
“I mean, how many people die on the Earth every day? I have no idea. I’m sorry to say it, but we all gotta die, man,” Hagar said.
His solo band, Sammy Hagar and the Circle, along with Whitesnake and Night Ranger, were supposed to play at S&T Music Park on Aug. 19 before the tour was cancelled.
Bruce Springsteen, Buddy Guy, Stevie Nicks and John Fogerty were among the others featured in the Rolling Stone story.
