January is usually a slow time for concerts, but there definitely are some shows worth making the trek out in the cold. Here’s a look at the top concerts coming this month to Pittsburgh.
Top concerts
Jan. 17: Silverstein, Thursday, Arm’s Length, Split Chain at Stage AE
Blending emo, hardcore and metal, the Canadian band Silverstein will bring their 25 Years of Noise tour to Pittsburgh, as they celebrate the band’s silver anniversary.
They’re also getting ready to release a pair of albums, “Antibloom” and “Pink Moon,” in 2025.
“Twenty-five years. It’s a really big milestone, quarter of a century. Especially the way we started. … We started as a side project,” singer Shane Told said in an interview with chorus.fm. “We didn’t have great goals of doing anything big. I didn’t even know if we were gonna put out a record. I thought, just like for the summer we’d play some shows and maybe record something. So 25 years later, if you told me this, I would never believe you.”

Jan. 26: Drive-By Truckers at Mr. Smalls Theatre
Drive-By Truckers are revisiting “Southern Rock Opera,” their 2001 double album/concept album about growing up in the South.
The band launched a tour celebrating their landmark album in June, and the latest leg brings it to Mr. Smalls Theatre in Millvale.
“It’s been a great time,” Patterson Hood told captimes.com. “It had been nearly 23 years since we had performed ‘SRO’ as a piece. … It aged pretty well. (It’s) more timely than it was in 2001.”
