Jimmy Mowery will perform at The Mall at Robinson on Feb. 12.

Music is a lot more than notes and harmonies to singer Jimmy Mowery.

It’s a way to honor his late father who was shot and killed on Thanksgiving Day when Mowery was 11 years old. He turned to music to heal, a career his father gave up to get a regular job and support the family according to a bio on NBC.com.

The Altoona native was on Season 16 of NBC’s “The Voice” in 2019. He finished in the top 24 and worked with both Adam Levine and John Legend on the show.

Mowery began playing the guitar as a teen and it inspired him to form the band Drop Out High.

Mowery will be in Pittsburgh at The Mall at Robinson on Saturday to perform a live acoustic set on the lower level from noon to 4 p.m. in the Mall’s Grand Court. He will be on stage with his wife, Heather. They do an average of 200 shows a year.

The mall chose this weekend because people most likely will be out looking for a present for the one they love for Valentine’s Day which is Monday.

“Jimmy’s appearance is our way of sending a Valentine to our families,” said Shelley Matheys-Yugar, director of marketing at The Mall at Robinson in a statement. “For most, it will be a sweet surprise while out shopping for the holiday, and an unforgettable opportunity for an intimate performance with this talented, rising star as he embarks on a new national tour.”
