The Lumineers, Pantera, Wiz Khalifa among July's top concerts in Pittsburgh
The Billy Joel-Rod Stewart show slated for July 5 at Acrisure Stadium would have been the highlight of the month before health concerns forced the entire tour’s cancellation.
There are still plenty of big shows coming to the Pittsburgh area in July, including Pittsburgh’s own Wiz Khalifa:
Top concerts
July 9: The Lumineers, Hippo Campus at the Pavilion at Star Lake
The Lumineers, an alternative folk band, first made their name with 2012’s “Ho Hey,” earning a Grammy nomination in the process. They’ve kept rolling with their latest album, “Automatic,” which was released on Feb. 14.
“It was very uninhibited. It’s like a Polaroid of a candid moment — wasn’t posed in any way,” drummer Jeremiah Fraites told the Los Angeles Times. “We didn’t make any demos, so what you’re hearing is the first tries and second tries.”

July 15: Pantera, Amon Amarth at the Pavilion at Star Lake
Metal bands Pantera and Amon Amarth are kicking off “the heaviest tour of the summer” in Pittsburgh.
Pantera, with classic era members Phil Anselmo (vocals) and Rex Brown (bass) reformed with Zakk Wylde (guitar) and Charlie Benante (drums) filling in to honor the late “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott and Vinnie Paul Abbott.
“Well, what I always say what separated Sabbath from everything, it’s not because it’s heavy. It’s because it’s great songs,” Wyld said on Billy Corgan’s podcast. “So with our Pantera, as far as I’m concerned, I always say Pantera in is in their genre of extreme metal, they are the gold standard.”

July 19: Wiz Khalifa, Sean Paul, DaBaby, Chevy Woods, Fedd the God, DJ Bonics at Pavilion at Star Lake
Pittsburgh-born rapper Wiz Khalifa is co-headlining the Good Vibes Only tour with Sean Paul, so perhaps Khalifa’s daily ritual is helping to maintain those good vibes.
The “Black and Yellow” rapper recently told late night host Jimmy Kimmel that he smokes 30 joints a day.
“Somebody put it a really good way the other day,” Khalifa said, according to Billboard. “You smoke and then you just challenge yourself to do normal things throughout the day … I enjoy it.”
