Top Pittsburgh concerts for November: Paul McCartney, Billy Strings and more
It’s a busy month at PPG Paints Arena, with eight shows there in November, including a Beatles icon and a rising bluegrass star. Here’s a look at the top shows coming to Pittsburgh in November:
Top concerts
Nov. 7-8: Billy Strings at PPG Paints Arena
Bluegrass guitar virtuoso Billy Strings’ fall tour includes a slew of sold-out shows, including a pair in Pittsburgh.
Strings’ latest studio album was 2024’s “Highway Prayers,” but Third Man Records, in a collab with Reprise Records, is issuing “Billy Strings Live in Rosemont + The Self-Titled EP” as the label’s latest installment of their Vault series.
“I first hit the road touring when I was 19, and I literally haven’t stopped,” Strings, now 33, told acousticguitar.com. “It’s been an amazing ride, but at some point I came to the realization that I really didn’t know what the hell I was doing, at least from any theoretical point of view. I didn’t know any of the names for anything I was playing. I’m being thrown into recording sessions with people like Béla Fleck, and all these players are talking about how the tune is built from the chords of harmonic minor, or whatever — all this heavy musical language.
“I felt like I was the little infant in the room that didn’t really know what anybody was talking about, but was pretending to,” he added with a laugh.
Nov. 11: Paul McCartney at PPG Paints Arena
Paul McCartney’s Got Back tour will cover all of his eras — from the Beatles to Wings to his solo career — in a sold-out show in Pittsburgh.
Early shows on the tour have run more than two and a half hours with 30+ songs for McCartney, 83, who shows few signs of slowing down.
A new documentary, “Man on the Run,” will be released in February on Amazon Prime, detailing his life after the Beatles.
“The Beatles had broken up and I was thinking, ‘What do I do now?’” McCartney said in the trailer, according to guitarplayer.com. “How can I ever do anything that’s anywhere near as good as the Beatles? I was on my own for the first time, so I had to look inside myself.”
